Joe Dahmen is a designer whose work engages resource use and the infrastructure that supports it. He was formerly CEO of Bodega Algae LLC, an advanced algae biofuels startup funded by the National Science Foundation. Dahmen has pioneered new rammed earth construction techniques and consults on rammed earth projects internationally. He is a member of the board of directors of Watershed Block, a company dedicated to developing a green construction materials.
Dahmen has presented his projects and related research at MIT, Harvard GSD, Pratt Institute, Lund University (Sweden), The New York Academy of Sciences, Bigelow Laboratory for Oceanographic Research, the Federal Highway Administration, and numerous architecture firms. He has served on architectural juries at the MIT, RISD, the Boston Architectural College, and elsewhere. Dahmen is the author of scholarly articles on the unreinforced masonry bridges of Anadalucia, Spain, anda forthcoming chapter on earthen vaulting.
