MASLA ADMISSIONS FAQS

Program Questions

1. What is the difference between the Master of Advanced Studies in Landscape Architecture [MASLA] and the Master of Landscape Architecture [MLA]?
The MASLA program is a research program and is intended for students who have an interest in examining and researching specific issues relating to landscape, place and environment. Students in the program are required to complete a thesis project. The MASLA degree does not fulfill the accredited degree requirement for progressing towards a professional licensure. Applicants who do not possess a landscape architecture or architecture background will complete a qualifying year prior to starting the two-year MASLA program. Those desiring professional credentials should apply to the Master of Landscape Architecture [MLA] program.

The MLA program is a full-time professional program that is accredited by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects [CSLA] and the American Society of Landscape Architects [ASLA] to meet the requirements and standards for professional licensure in the field. Students in the MLA program are required to complete a graduate design project in their third year of study.
