Design Studio 4: Urban and Regional Public Realms (Vertical Studio)

Two or more of these studios are offered each fall term to students in the second and third years of the MLA Program. Students in both years may preference to take one of the studios, thus they are vertically integrated. This studio undertakes a complex design problem from a planning scale down to site design, exposing and engaging students in several planning scales within one project. Students are exposed to numerous planning/design tools such as landscape analysis, site programming, site planning, detail design and methods of design representation. Particular attention is given to sustainable design principles and practices that reduce or mitigate the environmental consequences of urban and landscape design.
Prerequisite: Either (a) LARC 502 or (b) ARCH 500 or equivalent.
