The focus of the Environmental Vertical Studio is based on a definition of ecology extending beyond the natural environment, including social, cultural and economic aspects of current discourse concerning the environmental impact of design and building. The studio will cultivate in students an awareness of the ethical dimension of architectural design in relation to these impacts. Environmental Vertical Studios are coordinated by faculty to address a range of scales. While individual studios may choose to address specific environmental features of building (site, building configuration, building systems, building envelope, etc.) the context of studio exercises are to promote a comprehensive understanding of environmental aspects of design together with the in-depth resolution of one or more key technical concerns arising from such understanding. Prerequisite: ARCH 501.
