Type : Prototype

This seminar format course observes individual programmatic types - housing, library, office, for instance - in the context of historically successful design typologies and emerging prototypes. While offering detailed scrutiny of the specific issues surrounding significant contemporary designs, the seminar will also probe the persisting and curious regard between form and function and explore the variety of manifestations of expression held within an apparently singular design focus. Specific issues to be observed include the local cultures of construction and use as well as the more general proliferation of current formal idioms. Specific programmatic types will vary and be announced prior to course delivery.
