Book Launch: Vancouver Matters
Saturday, February 14, 2009
Charles H. Scott Gallery
Emily Carr University of Art + Design
1399 Johnston Street, Vancouver
2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Blueimprint and READ Books invite you to celebrate the launch of Vancouver Matters, a book that attempts to document what the city of Vancouver is made of, and what it might yet become. Vancouver Matters presents a reading of the city through multiple points of view; from professors and students at the University of British Columbia's School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, to artists, architects, and designers living and working in Vancouver.
The book represents Vancouver's history and present materiality through writing, drawing, and photography, offering a critical examination of the city's faults and opportunities. The text is organized by material condition, ranging from trees, views and water to intimacy, iconography and residue. Each investigation uses the specific material as a lens through which the city can be seen anew.
Vancouver Matters is edited by James Eidse, Mari Fujita, Joey Giaimo, Lori Kiessling, and Christa Min. The publication includes contributions from Aaron Knorr, Christopher Macdonald, Sherry McKay, Courtney Miller, Kelty Miyoshi-McKinnon, Stacy Moriarty, Andrea Nunes, Matthew Soules, Lyndsay Sung, Hannah Teicher, Kenneth Terriss, and Annabel Vaughan and Rob Brownie. It is published by Blueimprint books.
